God’s-Eye

God’s-Eye

I was driving to my co-op today day-dreaming about a variety of things, when I realized I couldn’t remember the Encaustic technique I had created in my mind, that I should have written in my journal – I was supposed to write it in my journal… but I must

Baking Polymer

Baking Polymer

Well, I baked the praying woman today, in parts. It went very well and I am going to give you a wonderful tip, if you ever are to find yourself curing your polymer figure. Here it is: Use a turkey bag to wrap your polymer figure

That Old Creative Process

That Old Creative Process

It’s that old Creative Process again… I get into a mode and develop all of these ideas- I run for my journal- ideas and pieces jumping onto the page- then I find myself staying up late at night- pushing myself and each piece as far as I can….then I rest a bit- move on to a different medium, perhaps. When I am creating, my work seems to split and multiply like fertile cells reproducing….ten ideas come out of one. My hands and mind can hardly keep up. Where do these ideas come from? The Holy Spirit? Is God an artist? Yes!

A New Old in Figurative Art

A New Old in Figurative Art

I seem to be going back to my roots. When my daughter Hannah was 2 years old (she’s 15 now), I was into making handmade dolls for her to play with. I tried a variety of mediums, but the one I loved the most were

Sculpting, Casting, and Writing

Sculpting, Casting, and Writing

I am currently working on a Series of Santos Cage Dolls. I am Sculpting, Casting and Writing a Book on some of the processes. The book has the working title, The Santos Cage Doll Redefined. And if you’re interested in taking a class on with me on Casting Figuratively at the Adorn

New Pieces, New Classes

New Pieces, New Classes

Although the relics in these pieces look like an experiment in Embedding, they actually incorporate Casting and Faux Finishing techniques in Encaustic Wax. I am teaching this technique at Adorn Me! as a 3 hour class. Come join me for some fun and learning! Just click on the photo to view the classes…

Baby Gameboard in process

Baby Gameboard in process

Here is a new piece, yet I’ve been working on it a long time! To me, it is reminiscent of the Cooties game I played as a child. I loved that game! I happen to be infatuated with the concept of Detachment and Regeneration, on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels.  I have been casting and

A Tower of New Paintings

A Tower of New Paintings

Here are some new encaustic paintings! I was playing with Cavo-Rilieveo Technique on the chair set. I was playing with Copper Grasses on the Blue Set. I like how when you play, they all fit together somehow in the end, which is why I like to do a consistent size on my paintings. Then, in the end, I have a type of grid I can play with!  ( I know this photo is a bit distorted and really, the edges of the paintings aren’t even finished yet, which is why they are spread out at the bottom). Enjoy!

Exploring Encaustics 2012

Exploring Encaustics 2012

I’ve been too busy to write, but we had a great time in the Encaustic Winter Workshop! Here, Mikaela is sharing her work with the other students, a time the students looked forward to as they became progressively more comfortable with encaustic painting and their
