Adorn Me! Encaustic Jewelry Workshops Present a Variety of Techniques

One of my students emailed me because she was taking all three of my Encaustic Jewelry workshops at Adorn Me! this February, in Houston, Texas. She wanted to know if there was a difference between the three workshops, Wearable Encaustic Shrines, Waxing Images and Cryptic Encaustics. There certainly are!

The Journal is a Compass to Your Path

The Journal is a Compass to Your Path

A journal is a bucket. If your Soul knows you have a bucket waiting, it will drain secrets into it. So writing in your journal is a cathartic release, but then, later when you look back at it, it becomes your compass for the path

Growing; Changing; Remaining

Growing; Changing; Remaining

Did you ever think about how our artwork evolves over time as we grow in our everyday lives? Every time we have growth in our life, it is reflected in our Art. Think about the growth we have in our work as artists. The piece you are working on

Being Authentic Makes You Nicer

Being Authentic Makes You Nicer

If you are doing what you are meant to do, no surprise – you’ll be a nicer person to be around. If you are meant to be an Artist, then you’ve got to make Art! Are you stretching yourself, exhausting yourself, to take care of

Come Fly with Me

Come Fly with Me

I have been making Mixed Media Santos Cage Dolls, as you may know, and I just got an offer from Idyllwild to teach a twenty hour workshop in gorgeous Strawberry Valley, California from July 11th – 13th, 2013. Anyone who wants to come spend three days in the mountains with me and try out all kinds of mixed media techniques on their own Santos, start planning now! The workshops will be up on their site soon. Stay warm and have a great holiday!    Linda

A Beautiful Mess

A Beautiful Mess

Our house was a bit messy when I was a kid. I mean, my mom was a bit of an artist, and then she went and had five daughters in six years, so there you have it. But this mess really enhanced my play time.

Channeling the Work that is Yours

Channeling the Work that is Yours

I was thinking about musicians, and how they may, for instance, channel a full idea all at once: the melody, lyrics, and rhythm; even the bridge or variation comes at once. How, do you suppose this happens? What about you and your medium? Are the

On Being Artists

On Being Artists

In my daily life, when I meet an artist, I get excited. I mean, it can be few and far between running into you folks.

But I think we drink up a little refreshment in each other when we meet. Yes? Our eyes sparkle and glisten a little. Conversation rushes out. Don’t you love connecting?
It’s good to have each other, to bounce ideas off of each other; to compare notes and to inspire each other.

I mean, the daily grind can be harsh, but sometimes just talking about color, concept or form brings us right back to who we are.

We are Artists. We get to define what art is. We are the carriers of where aesthetic and conceptuality meet.

We rush and crowd to each other’s work. Like when I was a modern dancer in Chicago twenty years ago, I could tell you everyone who would be in the audience. It was the artists who were there of course – the performance artists, the choreographers, the dancers. We were our own audience!

It’s true today too, I think, although maybe not as strongly. I believe, with the advent of Mixed Media Art, we are crossing more boundaries, and uniting more. And even though Art has gotten more commercial, it’s also gotten more accessible – which in turn, expands our audience.

And now, with the Internet, we’ve taken off like rockets – or maybe more like something slowly expanding in all directions… yes, like Jello on the loose.

Let’s stick together and stay connected through these times, because as artists, we have the same aims. This great cloud of artists that we are can only become better and clearer vehicles for carrying the vision we have been given – Unity through Aesthetics and Conceptuality –A Quest for Truth and the Expression of that Truth.

That is what defines us, No? Or Yes?

Gratitude and the Creative Process

Gratitude and the Creative Process

Remembering to be grateful develops us into the beings we are supposed to be. We become the best form of ourselves. We should be grateful always, to be our best selves. We know this to be true. So we’re grateful all the time, right? What?
