Luminous at Last

Luminous at Last

Hello fellow artists!

For those of you who have kept me patiently on your roster of art blogs that you follow, thank you!

I’ve got some waxy workshops underway for 2019.

I have been setting up the Luminous Encaustics Studio at the Screw Factory in Cleveland for quite some time now! Since mid April actually! That is way too long to wait on a studio, but it came along slowly in varous stages of repair.

Making this space suitable for working in warm wax, which relies on hot griddles, torches and heat guns, was really no match for the heat wave that stoked its way into the studio day after day, beginning in April. It turns out that on the third floor of a 150 year old factory building, the west facing factory windows in all their beauty would show me three seasons of summer as it were.

Relief was found on cloudy days, but then the rain poured in on the floor in puddles all around me! To top it off, the ceiling was dropping lead paint into the warm wax crocks, onto the tables, and onto the paintings. Oh me! I had the lead ceiling painted, I had a wall put in so I could run air conditioning (the maintenance men laughed and said go ahead and try! And they were right- the sun beat in through the roof, walls and windows).

I continued to set up my little farmhouse tables for workshops, waiting for the heat to subside. I’m still waiting. The ceiling actually continued to drop paint, the floor continued to puddle, the heat poured in.

Ok. On second thought, I think I’m moving back to Oberlin, folks. That was a tough choice, but it had to be done.

So NOW, I have a beautiful space that I will be renovating end of October. THEN, I will be amping up my griddles full force for workshops, paintings, and online fun. We begin our new, improved, waxy adventure in the new Luminous Encaustics Studio here in Oberlin by this January 2019.

Meanwhile, check out my workshop page, to get your art blood pumping (what do you mean wax pumps through your veins!) Ha! Well, it probably doesn’t yet, but with any luck we’ll get there!

As soon as I get the new space finished, I’ll get some live links up on the workshop page so you can register for my first local encaustic workshop.

And I will be teaching on the road again!

Starting with Art & Soul in Portland, Oregon,  March 2019.

Thanks for your patience my fellow artists and friends! See you soon, in workshops- online, on the road, and here in Oberlin, Ohio.

-Linda 🙂 (May your blessings chase you and not let you go!)
