A Patina to Call Our Own

A Patina to Call Our Own

Here is a gorgeous red clay brick I have sitting around in my yard. I love this brick, especially after it rains. The color just gets into my head. So do the color from stormy skies, old distressed wood, and bits of nature- like pods, seeds and leaves.

In fact, what I find completely amazing is the complexity of color in nature and her objects, her substance. Wet dirt, crumpled dead leaves; dried grasses…their colors and textures are endlessly fascinating to me. It’s the combination of the vibrant manifestation of life along with the elixir of decay. Like our own selves, their character is altered in gorgeous patinas as they age. Just like us.

I am at the age where I want complex color studies in my work, just like I expect complex layers of vintage ideas, experiences and color in my life and my body and spirit.

This is a new piece I made using Copper and Patina play, and a new technique I am developing called Encaustic Raised Relief.

There will be more of this technique coming as a workshop I am developing!

More later! Happy Creating!

Linda
