Mayhem in the Studio II: As the Smoke Clears
Hi Guys! Making any progress in your Studios? Organizing I mean! Not playing with all the stuff!
Well, that’s what happened to me- and as others reported in, it happened to them too!
So this process of Shuffling Precious Art Supplies and Objects from one cupboard to another can really slow us down! But what fun!
As you know I got all excited about giving up my office table in my studio because it gave me spaaaaaace! It also allowed me access to the shelf behind it, which in the area behind the table had laid untouched by human hands for too long…. So it was good to clear that area out.
But then what happened when my table moved out into the center of the room into free space – was that all my metal working tools found their way there, and a great little satellite space station was set up where I can torch and quench and file and snip metal and wire! This was a great discovery for me- I felt like Christopher Columbus finding new land! (but I didn’t have to slaughter anyone- only a big pile of files!)
As my metal station came alive, I began to play, right in the middle of the rest of my boxes and mess, and I actually was able to finish a nice little set of Mixed Media Santos I had started before, but never finished. It turned out what they needed was a little copper on their bodies! Also, as I cleaned out my linen cupboard, I rediscovered the old crow feathers I had been hanging onto for like 10 years, seriously! I realized right then and there that as the feathers and copper combined onto the Santos as wings, that my new body of work would explore copper wrapped feathers with all sorts of patinas, and all sorts of Santos characters in of course, you guessed it- Encaustic and ICE Resin.
So now you know what my Idyllwild students will be playing with as well.
Then I thought I might as well make the deadline in ArtDoll Quarterly, called: Santos Cage Doll Challenge. So, as I went to photograph them, and set up my photography station yet again– I thought, you know what- I can’t believe I put this up and break this down all the time- especially because I do photography work for ICE Resin. So I made a permanent photography station, and I am thrilled to have it there.
I am still making my way through, slowly. I had a little work table detour after I finished the Santos to play around a little making a tiny book. Guess what- tiny books take up a lot of table space!
I am making progress though, each day I switch a couple things, and clear something out. I am enjoying myself. Letting a little air into the old space. A little lift under my wings. A couple feathers under my copper!!!
